Our kickoff event features a dialogue with Robert Thurman and Jon Kabat-Zinn, two deep thinkers, long-time practitioners, and old friends. They will explore deep and far reaching questions about the purpose of education in this new technological age, the wonder of human sentience and our capacity for mindful awareness, and what role the great wisdom traditions can play in bringing secular ethics and heart into the learning process. Moderated by Amy Edelstein.
Sponsored by Tibet House in NYC, the program will be offered both live and live-streamed.
This event marks the launch of The Future of Education dialogues with leading philosophers, educators, cultural critics, and passionate futurists to re-envision education so we can cultivate the noble qualities of our human spirit in the next generation.

Why can't we have an education based on a love affair with the actuality of things, with the interconnectedness, with the beauty and the miracle of it all?
Education should include developing altruism and friendliness for yourself and for the world. When you discover that the fixated, egotistical self is not a reliable person to work for and that the self is a process that involves relating with other people, you have to shape it. You have to try to eliminate the negative aspects of a culturally prescribed self and develop an ever more educated self.
